Data Collection & Storage

CharacterForge is designed with privacy in mind. We collect minimal data and store everything locally in your browser.

• No Account Required: You don't need to register or provide any personal information to use CharacterForge.
• Local Storage Only: All your character data, preferences, and creations are stored exclusively in your browser's IndexedDB. We never send this data to our servers.
• No Tracking: We do not track your behavior across websites or use third-party tracking cookies.

AI Features & Data Processing

When you use AI generation features, minimal data is sent to our AI provider:

• What We Send: Only the text description you provide for character generation.
• AI Provider: We use Vercel AI Gateway with OpenAI GPT-5-nano model for AI features.
• Processing Purpose: Your text prompts are processed solely to generate character suggestions based on your description.
• Data Retention: AI prompts are not stored on our servers. Vercel and OpenAI may temporarily process your request according to their privacy policies.
• User Control: AI features are optional. You can use the visual character builder without ever using AI generation.

Analytics

We use Ahrefs Web Analytics to understand how our service is used. This analytics service:

• Collects anonymous usage statistics (page views, session duration)
• Does not track individual users across sessions
• Does not collect personal information

Sharing & Export

When you share characters via URL:

• Character configuration is encoded in the URL parameters
• Anyone with the URL can view the character
• No personal information is included in shared URLs

Your Data Rights

Since all data is stored locally in your browser:

• Full Control: You have complete control over your data at all times.
• Delete Anytime: Clear your browser data to remove all characters and preferences.
• Export: Use our export features to save your characters as PNG, PDF, or JSON files.
