OC Maker
Make an original character you will actually want to draw and write: personality, a look with a palette, a backstory hook and art-style notes. Lock what you love, reroll the rest, then bring them to life with AI.

Bring your OC to life
AI writes appearance, outfit details, personality, voice and a short backstory around what you rolled. Nothing is sent until you press the button. Then paint a reference portrait.
Your result appears here. The tools above work without AI; this button asks our AI model to write it up for you.
How to make an OC (in five steps)
- Start with a hook, not a look. "Stole something from a god" gives you a story; "blue hair" does not. Roll until a backstory hook makes you curious.
- Give them a want and a flaw that collide. An OC who wants to be trusted but lies when scared will write their own scenes.
- Pick one signature feature. A single readable detail (two-tone hair, a tail that betrays their mood) makes them recognisable in a thumbnail. Do not stack five.
- Lock a palette early. Two or three colours keep every drawing consistent. Our character design ideas page has palettes and shape language.
- Write it down. Copy the result as a template, or fill out the OC template so the details stay consistent across art and stories.
OC template
Every OC above copies as a template with these fields: name, species, age, personality, flaw, quirk, build, signature feature, outfit, colour palette, want, backstory hook, secret and art-style notes. Paste it into your notes app, a Toyhouse profile or a reference sheet.
Want more depth? Write a history with the backstory generator, design a face in the avatar maker, roll quick characters with the random character generator, or go anime with the anime character creator.
Questions
What is an OC?
OC stands for "original character": a character you created yourself rather than one from an existing book, game or show. People make OCs for art, comics, fan fiction, role-play and their own stories.
How do I make an OC?
Start with one hook (what makes their life interesting right now), then add a want, a flaw, a signature visual feature and a colour palette. Roll a starting point above, lock what you love, reroll the rest, then expand it with AI or write it yourself.
Is there an OC template?
Yes. Every OC rolled here can be copied as a ready-made template (name, species, personality, flaw, look, outfit, palette, backstory hook, secret and art notes). For a longer sheet with more questions, use the character profile template.
Is this OC maker free?
Yes. Rolling, locking, batch rolling, saving and copying are free with no account. The AI expansion and portraits are free with a fair-use limit per visitor, and only run when you press the button.
Can I make a fan OC for an existing series?
You can describe your OC as belonging to a world you like in the notes before expanding with AI. The generator itself only creates original names and details; it does not copy existing characters.
Can I draw or sell the OC I make here?
Yes. Rolled results are combinations of generic parts, and you own what you build from them. AI portraits are meant as reference; redraw them in your own style for commercial work.
